20 teams are divided into four groups of five for the first stage and each team plays a minimum of four matches against their own group members in the beginning. The top two teams from each group will then qualify for the Super 8 stage and the bottom three teams will get disqualified for further matches.

Now, the remaining eight teams get divided further into another two groups during the Super Eight phase. Here, each team plays three matches against other remaining teams of the same group and the winners will then make it to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals are the battle between the top 2 teams from each Super Eights Group and the winners will then progress to the finals in Barbados on June 29.

  • Group B: England, Scotland, Australia, Namibia, and Oman
  • Group C: West Indies, Uganda, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Papua New Guinea
  • Group D: South Africa, Netherlands, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal

Venues

The tournament will be held in different venues. Three venues in the USA and six in the Caribbean will be used during the tournament. 16 Contests will be held in Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York and the historical clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled in the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island on 9 June. Total of forty-one matches will be played in the Caribbean between six different nations. Semi-finals are held in Trinidad, Tobago, and Guyana, before the finals that would be held on 29 June in Barbados.

Super Eights will be played between the top two teams from each of the initial four groups. Pakistan and New Zealand have been omitted.

How Does The Format Work?

Four groups of five that started the tournament are now reduced to two groups of four – Super Eights. Each team will play against one another in their respective groups with the top two teams from each making their way to the Semi-Finals.

  • Group 1: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Australia
  • Group 2: USA, England, South Africa, and West Indies.

When And Where The Super Eights And The Finals Will Be Played?

The Super Eights are going to be played from June 18 to June 25th. 

ICC T20 World Cup series premiered on June 2 at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Grand Prairie, at Dallas. It has now shifted from the USA  and will be completely played in the Caribbean. Four venues are finalized: Barbados, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Saint Vincent. The Semi-Finals will be held on June 27th in Trinidad, Tobago, and Guyana respectively. The Finals will be played in Barbados on June 29.

Specific Conditions for T20 World Cup 2024:

Any match that ends up in a tie will have to play a Super Over and if the Super Over also ends up in a tie, a constant Super Overs will be played until there is any winner. And, an additional time is available to ensure the completion of all knockout features at the semi-final and final events.

A total of 250 minutes of additional time is available for both semi-finals and each will have 60 minutes extra time at the end of the day’s play on June 26 and 190 minutes extra time will be added on June 27.

The second semi-final on June 27 has an additional 250 minutes and the final on June 29 will have a reserved day on June 30.

The ICC hasn’t yet confirmed the prize money for the 2024 tournament, but the previous winners England have been awarded $1.6m in 2022.
